Lion of Judah

Lion of Judah

As UJIA Trustee charged with engaging Women’s Philanthropy, I’m delighted to have reinstated Lion of Judah in the UK. Together we are creating a network of philanthropic women who are passionate about the future of our Jewish community, wanting to inspire young people to connect to their heritage and create the next generation of leadership.

The Lions of Judah are an international network of philanthropic women of all ages who support Israel and their community putting Jewish values into action. They create impact by investing time and financial resources, demonstrating that they are ready to take their commitment to Jewish peoplehood to the next level and become a role model for the women in their community and family. There are 17,500 Lions of Judah in the USA, Canada, Israel, and 34 countries around the world. Through their philanthropy they play a vital role in aiding the vulnerable, preserving human dignity and building Jewish identity within their own communities.

UK Lions of Judah are part of the Keren Heyesod International Women’s Division, joining Keren Heyesod Lions of Judah in 34 other countries.  50% of our donations go to their programs in Israel that we choose, supporting women and children in vulnerable communities, to empower, save and change lives.  The rest of the donations are split: 30% remains in the UK to support UJIA leadership and Israel engagement programs that strengthen Jewish identity in our youth and 20% to a giving circle from which the Lions are free to donate to causes of their choice.

As a Lion of Judah you can choose to be as active as you wish and have the option to Chair and/or join sub committees to encourage the growth of women’s engagement and philanthropy in the UK.  You can choose between volunteering, events and enrichment, recruitment, and project committees.

Since successfully launching in January 2018, 45 women have become a Lion Of Judah each donating an annual minimum gift of £3,000.   In recognition of their commitment to Israel, our Lions were honored and presented their brooches by the Ambassador of the State if Israel Mark Regev at a reception at the official residence.
